    The ACVN story

Twin brothers form ACVN out of lack of civility

Founders Ronald and Donald Brookins of Tampa, FL decided to form the America’s Community Voices Network (ACVN) due to lack of civility since the Election of 2012.

    Founder & CEO Ronald Brookins

"Both Donald and I believe that regardless our individual points of view or opinions, we should be able to discuss and debate ideas and advocacy in a calm manner without insulting or disrespecting each other," said CEO Ronald Brookins.

    Goals

The principal goal is to provide a multi-faceted platform that consists of podcasts, blogging, town hall teleconference meetings and online chats.

Currently, Ronald T. Brookins is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Donald J. Brookins is the Chief Operations Officer (COO).

The partnership will eventually consist of a diverse community based advisory board and community based advocates. They will represent health equity, education, religion, small business development, professional organizations, community based organizations, state, county and local governments, community based social groups, fraternities and youth led organizations.

The main goal is to create access to multiple social media platforms for organizations and advocates to debate, discuss and increase the awareness of critical issues and concerns in the communities that they serve.

Providing this access is essential to developing civil discourse between individuals and organizations with differing opinions and stakeholders.

    ACVN plans

ACVN plans to recruit 6 to 12 partners representing neighborhoods and community based campaigns. The entire network will work to increase awareness about voter registration, voter education, get the vote out, prevention of voter depression, health equity, improved mental access, feeding the hungry and mentoring.

“Critical to our success is a multi-faceted community outreach that consists of marketing via social media platforms, local media and targeted professional groups and organizations,” said Brookins.

    About the founders

During the early 1980s Ronald and Donald Brookins were employed as staff representatives of the largest public employees union, A.F.S.C.M.E. (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The union represents local, state, county and municipal employees throughout West Central Florida.

Both Donald and Ronald Brookins are retired from Verizon Telephony. They have co-hosted the Community Health Advocacy Partnershp’s weekly public affairs radio program “Community Voices,” on WTMP 1150 AM, Tampa Bay from 2006-2008.

Donald and Ronald Brookins co-hosted “Soul Perspectives,” a weekly radio magazine program on WMNF Community Radio, 88.5 FM for two years. Ronald also served as Development Director and board member for the radio.

Ronald was Executive Coordinator for health advocacy for professional organizations that included Bay Area Medical Association, Florida State Medical Association, National Medical Association Region III (2000-2005) and co-founder, Executive Director of C.H.A.P. Community Health Advocacy Partnership.
